Did Bruce Willis just get diagnosed with dementia?

 He just did. Bruce Willis’ family has released a statement earlier today to share the sad news with the world. Initially Willis had retired because he had been suffering from aphasia, but a more recent diagnosis determined he has frontotemporal dementia.

His wife, Emma, wrote: "Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce's condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD)," she continued. "Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."

The family thanked people for wishing the beloved actor well. As the disease has been progressing rather rapidly, the future prognosis isn’t great. It has already robbed Willis of his ability to act and now he’s slowly losing his ability to communicate with his loved ones and the world around him altogether. Daughter Rumer Willis recently announced her first pregnancy, making the Die Hard star a first-time grandfather. Sometimes life gives you little gifts even when it takes away so much else.

I’ve grown up on his movies, always loved the Die Hard franchise and of course his great performances in movies like Pulp Fiction and many, many more. A great action hero, but also a man with a quick wit who could do light-hearted humor and more serious roles just as well as he did thrillers and flicks filled with explosions and gunfire… a jack of all trades if Hollywood ever had one.

Having lost my own grandfather to Alzheimer’s, I know how fast things can move. How quickly people can completely lose themselves, lose their ability to express themselves and become fully entrapped within their own minds… I truly hope Hollywood will throw Bruce Willis some sort of “lifetime achievement tribute” while he is still alive and aware of what is happening. He’s a great guy and he gave the world our finest Christmas movie. Much love to him.
